New Omicron strain detected in Armenia
The Acrux subvariant of Omicron has been detected in Armenia recently, Romella Abovyan, Head of the Department for Epidemiology of Noncommunicable Diseases and Nosocomial Infections at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told Panorama.am on Wednesday.
71 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Armenia in the past 7 days, whereas 42 new cases were recorded in the previous week.
While a rise in new cases worldwide is expected, the World Health Organization calls on all countries to increase surveillance, testing and sequencing to assess the risk of the circulating new variants.
The Health Ministry urges Armenians to get vaccinated against the seasonal flu and Covid-19.
Suspected Covid cases are being tested in all clinics.
