Teachers protest outside Armenian government
Teachers staged a protest outside the Armenian government building on Thursday, demanding a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
They complain about the new system which has increased their workload, thematic plans in the electronic class register, as well as the requirements for their voluntary certification.
After a meeting at the government, one of the teachers, Shogher Babayan, told reporters they had thoroughly presented their proposals and complaints and were assured that a meeting with the premier would be held next week.
She claims a total of 35,000 teaches are ready to quit if their demands are neglected.
“We have to apply to Nikol Painyan today. They have promised us that they will inform us about a meeting with the prime minister on Monday. I hope that the premier will be willing to meet us, otherwise we are ready to take an extreme step and leave our jobs," Babayan said.
The teachers also plan to hold strikes.
