Oppositionist accuses Armenia's ruling team of abuse of administrative resources
Opposition activist Menua Soghomonyan, a member of the Hayakve ballot initiative, has accused the ruling Civil Contract party of abusing administrative resources during the Yerevan election race.
He claims that a large number of public workers, including entire staffs of kindergartens and government officials, are attending election campaign rallies of the ruling team’s mayoral candidate, Tigran Avinyan.
"We have seen numerous cases when the Municipality staffers, heads of Yerevan’s administrative districts and their employees attend campaign rallies,” Soghomonyan told a news conference, pointing to the participation of Erebuni district head Hakob Balayan in Avinyan’s rally there.
He noted that the head of the Construction and Improvement Department at the Yerevan Municipality, Khoren Grigoryan, and the head of its Utilities Department, Arsen Karoyan, accompanied Avinyan during the September 4 rally.
“How is it that an entire kindergarten staff of 30-40 people are suddenly “marveled” at Tigran Avinyan’s activity and joins his campaign?” Soghomonyan said.
