New exhibition at Armenia's History Museum puts burial jars in the spotlight
The History Museum of Armenia will open the temporary exhibition “The Phenomenon of the Jar in the Funeral Rite: The Culture of Jar Burials in Antique Armenia” on Saturday, September 16, at 12pm.
The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the History Museum of Armenia and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography at Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences.
For the first time, the burial jars found by chance from the excavations of various Armenian archaeological sites (Garni, Nor Armavir, Metsamor, Nerkin Naver, Mastara, etc.) will be on display with their accompanying property, including pottery, metal, jewellery and other items, organizers said.
On the same day, from 1pm to 3pm, a workshop dedicated to the culture of jar burials will take place.
Entrance is free.
