The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia has summed up the preliminary results of Sunday’s elections in Yerevan.
Voters headed to the polls to elect a municipal council and decide on Yerevan’s mayor for the next five years.
CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan on Monday said that the voter turnout was 28.44 percent. Only 234,436 out of Yerevan’s 824,250 eligible voters cast ballots in the elections.
A total of 2,763 ballot papers were declared invalid.
Four parties and one bloc have entered the City Council, including the ruling Civil Contract party (32.57%), National Progress party (18․89%), Public Voice Party (9.68%), Republic (Hanrapetutyun) Party (11.32%) and Mother Armenia bloc (15.43%).
The other eight parties running in the elections failed to meet the 4 percent threshold needed to enter the municipal council.
