Hayakve says Yerevan elections were 'far from being free and fair'
Sunday’s municipal elections in Yerevan were “far from being free, fair and transparent”, claims the Hayakve initiative which was among the election observers.
Voters headed to the polls on Sunday to elect a municipal council and decide on Yerevan’s mayor for the next five years.
The voter turnout stood at 28.44 percent.
According to the preliminary election results, four parties and one bloc have won seats in the Yerevan City Council, but none of them has gained an absolute majority.
In a statement on Monday, Hayakve reported abuse of administrative resources by the ruling Civil Contract party during the election campaigning. The group alleged pressure on election commission members, violations of the rights of proxies and observers, as well as other irregularities.
It promised to release a detailed report on the violations recorded during the elections.
