CEC announces Yerevan election recount
Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has announced a recount of votes in Sunday’s municipal elections in Yerevan.
The draws for the recount was held in all electoral districts of the Armenian capital on Tuesday morning.
The vote recount is set to begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday to complete at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The process will be live broadcast on the CEC website.
Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party won roughly 33% of the vote in the municipal elections. But it fell well short of an absolute majority in the Yerevan City Council.
The National Progress party led by former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan came in second with 19%, followed by the Mother Armenia bloc which won 15.4%.
The Republic (Hanrapetutyun) Party gained 11%, while the Public Voice Party won 9.7% of the vote.
The voter turnout was 28.5%, representing 234,553 out of 824,250 eligible voters.
