Opposition postpones Tuesday's rally in Yerevan
The National Committee set up by the Armenian opposition to force Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan from office has postponed a rally scheduled to be held in Yerevan’s central Republic Square on Tuesday evening.
In a statement, the committee highlighted that thousands of forcibly displaced people from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) continue to stream into Armenia following last week’s Azerbaijani military offensive.
“Because of Azerbaijan's genocidal actions, the remains of hundreds of Artsakh Armenians are being transported to Armenia,” it said.
“Like many other Armenians, the National Committee has joined the efforts to cope with the humanitarian catastrophe along with its supporters and member organizations. Taking this into account, the rally slated for 7 p.m. today in Yerevan’s Republic Square has been postponed,” reads the statement.
The date and time of the next rally will be announced additionally, the opposition said.
More than 13,350 people have already crossed from Artsakh into Armenia, Armenian officials said early on Tuesday, with thousands more expected over the coming days.
