Ruben Vardanyan charged in Azerbaijan
Artsakh’s former state minister, businessman and philanthropist Ruben Vardanyan is facing terrorism-related charges in Azerbaijan, the country’s State Security Service announced on Thursday.
It said in a statement that Vardanyan had been charged with "financing terrorism, participating in the creation and operation of illegal armed groups and illegally crossing Azerbaijan's state border". He has been placed in pre-trial detention.
Azerbaijani border guards abducted Vardanyan as he attempted to leave Artsakh for Armenia and was taken to Baku on Wednesday.
