MP responds to Turkey’s demands to shut down Armenian nuclear power plant
Turkey’s demands for Armenia to shut down its nuclear power plant are “inappropriate and outdated”, says MP Sargis Khandanyan, chair of the parliament foreign affairs committee.
“Armenia has its strategy for energy security and such demands are inappropriate and outdated,” he told reporters, adding that there have been numerous such demands.
“Armenia will act in a way that stems from its energy security,” the MP stressed.
Khandanyan stated that the whole world “is now shifting to atomic energy due to the problem with hydrocarbon reserves.”
Turkey announced on Monday that it had appealed to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), demanding the cessation of operations at the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia.
