Civil Contract, Republic factions sign memorandum of cooperation
The factions of Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party and the Republic (Hanrapetutyun) Party in the Yerevan municipal council signed a memorandum of cooperation on Tuesday.
Mayor-elect Tigran Avinyan and Artak Zeynalyan, head of the Republic faction, signed the document at a joint press conference on Tuesday.
Avinyan said the two factions would jointly govern the Armenian capital.
The new Yerevan City Council voted 32 to 5 to elect Avinyan mayor at its inaugural meeting earlier on Tuesday.
The opposition Mother Armenia bloc and the National Progress Party boycotted the meeting.
