Moscow, Baku to decide future of Russian peacekeeping mission in Karabakh, Kremlin says
The Kremlin said on Wednesday that the future of the Russian peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh would be determined by Russia and Azerbaijan.
"Now the Russian peacekeepers are indeed de facto and de jure on the territory of Azerbaijan. This was acknowledged by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan," TASS quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.
"As for the further regime of the peacekeepers' stay and all related issues, of course, this will be discussed with the Azerbaijani side," Peskov noted, adding Russia "will continue our contacts with Armenian friends as well."
In a televised interview on Tuesday, Pashinyan said that if Russian peacekeepers leave Nagorno-Karabakh, they must return to Russia, not redeploy to Armenia.
