Opposition MP: Armenia has turned into 'prison state'
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan took to Facebook on Thursday to again denounce the authorities for “fabricated” cases against their opponents and their “illegal” detention.
Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, said he had visited Major-General Grigory Khachaturov and Vanadzor Mayor Mamikon Aslanyan in the Vardashen Penitentiary.
“Visits to several persons held in the same penitentiary have been banned, including Garik Galeyan, Narek Malyan and others,” the MP wrote.
“Due to the fears of the current authorities, a large number of people are being held in various penitentiary institutions, many of them have been there for so long that even people often forget about it. Armenia has turned into a prison state,” Abrahamyan stated.
