Armenian president signs into law Rome Statute ratification bill
Armenia’s President Vahagn Khachaturyan on Friday signed into law a bill ratifying the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court (ICC), the presidential office reported.
It makes the country the 124th member state of the statute.
The Armenian parliament voted 60 to 22 to ratify the Rome Statute at a sitting on October 3.
Armenia signed the Rome Statute on 1 October 1999.
It was adopted at a diplomatic conference in Rome, Italy on 17 July 1998 and entered into force on 1 July 2002. The Rome Statute established four core international crimes: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression. Those crimes "shall not be subject to any statute of limitations".
