MP calls out int’l community for failure to open air corridor to Artsakh
Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has reacted to reports that the European Union will launch a humanitarian air bridge operation consisting of "several flights" to Egypt aiming to bring supplies to humanitarian organizations on the ground in Gaza.
"The first two flights will take place this week, carrying humanitarian cargo from UNICEF including shelter items, medicines and hygiene kits," the EU said in a statement.
“I am certainly not against the protection of civilians’ rights in Gaza, and what has been happening in recent days is simply a human tragedy. Hundreds of casualties have been reported among women and children on both sides,” Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“But why didn't international actors launch a humanitarian corridor during the 9-month blockade of Artsakh? Why did the same actors remain silent on the Azerbaijani aggression and ethnic cleansing in Artsakh?
“It is clear to everyone that the Armenian authorities carried out a hostile act towards the people, but this does not justify the international actors, whose indifference and silence led to or contributed to hundreds of casualties and an exodus of people from their homeland,” the deputy stated.
