Nikol Pashinyan: 1,016 Armenian citizens are considered missing
Armenia recognizes Azerbaijan's territorial integrity of 86,600 square kilometers, but the Azerbaijani president has never made such a statement, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in his remarks at the European Parliament's plenary session on Tuesday.
He pointed to Azeri President Ilham Aliyev’s latest statement that he recognizes Armenia's territorial integrity without mentioning the country's 29,800 square kilometers, which raises concerns among some analysts that it could pave the way for territorial claims against Armenia.
Pashinyan reiterated his government’s readiness to resolve the issue of enclaves “on the principle of reciprocity”.
"Armenia is ready to sign an agreement on peace and settlement of relations with Azerbaijan by the end of the year. We have agreed to hold a trilateral meeting in Brussels, and if the principles are officially confirmed, the signing of the treaty before the end of the year will be quite realistic," the prime minister added.
Pashinyan said that Armenia was ready to exchange all prisoners of war and other detainees with Azerbaijan on the principle of "all for all" and work to ascertain the fate of missing persons. He also said that 1,016 Armenian citizens were considered missing.
