Armenian government approves Academic City concept
The Armenian government endorsed a new concept for the Academic City at a meeting on Thursday.
Presenting the project, Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Zhanna Andreasyan said two sites were envisaged for the construction of the campus.
“One is adjacent to the 17th district in Yerevan and the other is the area of the Hayfilm film studio,” she said.
The Academic City is expected to house 16 universities, including 8 public and 8 private or international. It is set to accommodate nearly 44,000 people.
A railroad linking the Academic City to Yerevan will be built, Andreasyan noted.
The construction of the Academic City is scheduled to start in October 2025.
