Artiom Chernamorian: Situation getting worse in Israel
The situation is worsening in Israel with each passing day, says Artiom Chernamorian, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Israelahayer (Armenians of Israel) and founder of a nonprofit group called Nairi Union of Armenians in Petah Tikva.
“Rocket strikes continue. At the moment, there are no positive changes,” he told Panorama.am on Thursday.
The journalist says the situation in the central parts of the country is relatively calm, but air raid sirens sound there 3-4 times a day.
Israel is home to 10,000 Armenians, with 3,500 of them living in settlements hit by rocket attacks from Gaza.
Chernamorian says no casualties have been reported among Armenians in Israel since the conflict escalation.
149 Armenian citizens and ethnic Armenians were evacuated from Israel to Armenia on a special flight organized by the Armenian government on Monday.
No new flights have been announced yet, but Chernamorian says 10 more Armenians have contacted him for registration to leave Israel.
“They are mostly mothers and their children,” he noted.
The war between Israel and Gaza entered its 13th day on Thursday.
At least 1,400 people have been killed and 3,800 injured in Israel since the October 7 Hamas attacks.
The death toll in Gaza stands at 3,478 killed while 12,065 others have been wounded.
