Austrian Parliament condemns Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh
The Austrian parliament on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), the Armenian Embassy in Austria reported.
Armenia’s Ambassador to Austria Armen Papikyan participated in the Austrian parliament session as an honorary guest.
Numerous Austrian MPs condemned Azerbaijan for the mid-September Artsakh attack and called on the Austrian federal government to support Armenia and the Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
The resolution, which was backed by all five factions of the legislative assembly, urges the Austrian government to condemn Azerbaijan's military offensive that sparked a mass exodus of over 100,000 ethnic Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh.
The document stresses the importance of safeguarding the rights of ethnic Armenians remaining in Artsakh and those who wish to return, as well as the implementation of the ICJ orders to ensure free movement through the Lachin Corridor.
The Austrian parliament also calls on the federal government to help ensure free and unimpeded access of international humanitarian organizations to Nagorno-Karabakh and to protect its cultural heritage and churches.
