Over 520 protesters arrested in Armenia since September 20, MP says
As many as 529 anti-government protesters have been arrested in Armenia since September 20, MP Kristine Vardanyan of the opposition Hayastan bloc said, citing Armenia’s Interior Ministry.
In a social media post on Monday, Vardanyan said she had submitted a query to the Interior Ministry to find out the scale of “repressions” and injuries among protesters.
Six detainees sustained injuries and three of them required hospital care, the ministry said in its response.
More than 60 protesters are facing charges. 37 of them have been remanded into pre-trial custody, while five have been placed under house arrest.
“The illegal detention of political and public figures held earlier is constantly being extended,” Vardanyan wrote on Facebook, adding “devoted” lawyers and opposition MPs are dealing with their defense.
