Armenian MP reacts to Artsakh president's latest remarks
Armenia wants the Artsakh authorities to give explanations that the Artsakh Armenians have been waiting for after their resettlement in Armenia, Andranik Kocharyan, a senior MP from Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party, told reporters on Monday.
His comments came after Artsakh President Samvel Shahramanyan backtracked on his decision to dissolve the republic last week.
“No document can dissolve the republic created by the people,” he told protesters outside the Artsakh Permanent Representation in Yerevan on Friday, referring to his September 28 decree which said that the Artsakh Republic “will cease to exist” on January 1.
“The Artsakh authorities announce that they “have signed” [the document] one day, while they deny signing anything the other day,” said Kocharyan, who heads the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security.
He urged the Artsakh leader to make clear whether he signed the document on the dissolution of Artsakh or not.
"If he hasn’t signed it, why is he in Armenia now? He should have stayed as president in Artsakh. If he declares that the document has no force, the question arises why the Artsakh Armenians left their homes," Kocharyan noted.
