No unresolvable issue in Caucasus region, Iranian leader says
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has said that there is no question in the Caucasus region that cannot be resolved.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Turkey's Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, in Tehran on Monday evening, IRNA reported.
President Raisi emphasized the potential of the Caucasus cooperation group in Tehran to address problems and challenges. He advocated for convergence and dialogue among regional countries as an effective solution to these challenges.
Iran believes that the talks among the countries in the Caucasus region will pave the way for solving the problems and that the foreigners’ interference will further complicate the issues, the president underlined.
Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan echoed the necessity of resolving regional issues through inter-regional talks without foreign interference, noting that hosting the Caucasus cooperation meeting in Tehran paves the way for addressing challenges in line with regional interests.
Fidan acknowledged the significant role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in establishing peace and stability in the region.
The foreign ministers of Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey arrived in the Iranian capital on Monday to take part in the 3+3 meeting aimed at reviewing the Caucasus developments and making efforts to expand regional cooperation.
The formation of the Caucasus group aims to resolve regional problems without involving extra-regional and Western nations. The 3+3 format includes Iran, Russia, Turkiye, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. It seeks a permanent solution to disputes between Azerbaijan and Armenia and aims to bolster stability in the Caucasus region.
The first edition of the meeting was held in Moscow last year at the level of deputy foreign ministers without the presence of Georgia.
