Armenian MP: Aliyev got what he needed from the West
The meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev that was due to take place in Brussels in late October was obviously canceled because Aliyev did not want to attend it, MP Seyran Ohanyan of the opposition Hayastan faction said on Thursday.
"He has already got what he needed from the West in the negotiation process,” Ohanyan told a press briefing in the parliament.
“At this stage, he has achieved his goal. I think that in the future he will focus on the conclusion of a peace agreement with Armenia, undoubtedly continuing pressure on Armenia over the so-called 'Zangezur corridor’,” the deputy remarked.
He claims agreements on different platforms – whether it is the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 or the statements adopted in Prague and Granada – confirm that the issue of the Artsakh conflict and the prospect for peace in Armenia "are caught between two different roadmaps”.
"All this is a diplomatic trap. Of course, comprehensive knowledge is needed to make a final assessment, but this trap is aimed at turning Armenia into a battlefield of geopolitical power centers, and it will be extremely difficult for the Armenian people to get out of it," Ohanyan said.
