Facebook only cares about profits

Author Anahit Voskanyan

Given the importance of the topic, I repeatedly attempted to write about it, but had to cut it short as I felt disgusted when getting screenshots from Facebook videos.

Some viral videos circulating on Facebook show maggots chirping in a man’s mouth or people removing butterfly larvae from various animals.

Other videos show macaque monkeys feed their babies or hit and bite them not to feed them. Some drop their babies from above, perhaps they don't want to take care of them. There are those who drag dead, rotten or even mummified cubs to people, knowing that people would give more food to them.

Another video features a monkey offering his red butt for a man to touch and then get some food in a resemblance of zoo sexual acts.

Separately, young Indian men caress the genitals of black, big cows, posing as sex machos.

African men either wash themselves with cow urine or use it to wash the dishes.

Other videos feature disgusting dishes and live food, or food cooked on the ground with dirty hands.

What is the point of imposing all this content? Why is it socially significant? Why does Facebook consider such content acceptable, but delete a humanitarian and patriotic post?

Because, although FB has published a number of reasonable rules in an apparent effort to meet some legal requirements, the social media platform is actually run by oligarchs. It is enough to write about the brutalities committed by Azerbaijanis, they come in and complain that the post is offensive ... and Facebook blocks it.

I once complained about a laugh reaction to an image of crying child in war, and I was told that it did not violate Facebook’s rules.

In other words, it does not violate the rules because it expresses joy, is it? Facebook loves fun. Even if it is expressed in comments down below a post featuring dead people. Facebook doesn’t like unhappy faces, even if you tell about some really stupid thoughts in a post. You make people angry, so it's bad, you get an angry face, they block you, a happy face – it’s all good. That's it.

On the other hand, Facebook can allow whatever it wants on it own platform.

Meanwhile, Facebook seeks to generate revenue from videos. Title your video “the adorable cub" and you are allowed to show how a monkey mother kills her cub by hitting it on the ground.

Adding a smile and background sound "oh - no-no-noo" to your video and showing animals’ sexual life is also allowed.

Especially since Facebook benefits from many views, right?

Pay for ads and your posts will be viewed by many people, you will both benefit. But it’s naive to think that Facebook would praise you for smart thoughts. Why would they need your “free cheese”.

It is useless to explain what you are doing and its social importance in letters to Facebook.

If you can spice up social importance with "cow urine", it will attract many views.

If you don't want it, don't join Facebook, just as it’s the case in politics or in life in general. The ignorant, the ugly, the disgusting and the senseless are more attractive ... and they push you out. On the one hand, you want to be a social animal and connect with many people, on the other hand, you don't want to be like many people.

Or just write a word or two, use chats instead of e-mail, follow the fight between normal and abnormal without letting it get under your skin, sometimes philosophize if you can... that’s it.

Hit the like button if it’s OK!
