Politician: October 27 Armenian parliament attack remains unsolved
The deadly attack on Armenia’s parliament on October 27, 1999 remains unsolved, says Aram Sargsyan, a former prime minister and leader of the Republic (Hanrapetutyun) Party.
The terrorist attack left eight Armenian political leaders dead, including then prime minister Vazgen Sargsyan, Aram Sargsyan’s brother, and parliament speaker Karen Demirchyan.
Speaking to reporters at the Yerablur Military Pantheon, where he visited to commemorate the assassinated politicians, Sargsyan said he was twice summoned to the National Security Service (NSS) for questioning as part of a criminal probe into the attack last year.
"The interrogations were rather long and tiresome. After that, I was not summoned again, as I had nothing else to say, moreover, there were also old testimonies," he said.
He believes solving the October 27 attack is within the powers of the NSS which can either confirm or deny possible foreign involvement in it.
“Since it is neither confirmed nor denied, this version is up in the air and the October 27 attack remains unsolved," Sargsyan added.
