Activist calls for rally in support of Armen Ashotyan outside Yerevan court
Public and political activist Edgar Ghazaryan calls for supporters of opposition politician Armen Ashotyan to gather outside Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court in Yerevan on Monday to express support for him at a court hearing.
Ashotyan was arrested on 16 June on charges of abuse of power and money laundering strongly denied by him as politically motivated.
"On October 30, at 12 p.m., the Anti-Corruption Court will start a regular public hearing in the case involving political prisoner Armen Ashotyan, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA),” Ghazaryan wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
“As a participant of the signature collection confirming the existence of political prisoners and demanding their release, I will be in the courtyard at 12 p.m.
“I urge all those who joined the signature collection from Armenia and Artsakh, political and public figures, as well as all concerned citizens and patriots to gather outside the court to follow together the course of the fabricated case and thus support political prisoner Armen Ashotyan. Freedom to Armen Ashotyan and all political prisoners!” he added.
