Displaced Artsakh Armenians ask ICRC to help rebury their relatives
Forcibly displaced people from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) have asked the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Armenia to help rebury their relatives in Armenia following Azerbaijan’s violent seizure of Artsakh in September.
“Today Artsakh/Karabakh Armenians turned to the Red Cross (in Yerevan) for help in reburying their relatives,” Marut Vanyan, a reporter from Artsakh, wrote on X on Monday.
“Many believe that Azerbaijanis will destroy the military memorials in NK. I’ve been in Stepanakert Memorial after the one-day war in September,” he added, sharing photos.
ICRC Armenia Office Communications Program Manager Zara Amatuni confirmed the meeting to Panorama.am on Tuesday.
“Such a meeting was held yesterday, but it’s still too early to talk about any steps. First of all, we are open [to such meetings], we listen to people’s concerns and explain them our possible role as a mediator, but political decisions are necessary to convert the idea into reality,” she said, adding the process is time-consuming.
