Israel called up many ethnic Armenian reservists amid war with Hamas
The situation remains tense in Israel amid the ongoing rocket strikes on the country’s central and southern parts by Hamas fighters, Artiom Chernamorian, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Israelahayer (Armenians of Israel) and founder of a nonprofit group called Nairi Union of Armenians in Petah Tikva, told Panorama.am on Wednesday.
He said that Yemen’s forces have also started attacks on the southern town of Eilat, where Armenian families live.
"This was the only settlement where people could recover a bit," he said, adding that Hamas launched rocket attacks on Petah Tikva three times on Tuesday.
"The night was calm, but it doesn't mean that everything is calm in general, we are constantly made to feel that we are in a war," Chernamorian stated.
He said there were no casualties among Armenians.
"But many young Armenian people who are citizens of Israel – both boys and girls – have been called up by the military. Some of the reservists have been stationed in the north, while others are in the south, in the Gaza zone,” Chernamorian noted.
"Our children are very smart and good specialists who mostly work on radars," he added.
A total of 300 Israeli soldiers, mostly 18-20 years old, have been killed since the war with Hamas began on October 7. There are no ethnic Armenians among the dead soldiers.
