FIDE Grand Swiss: Armenia's Samvel Ter-Sahakyan beats Richard Rapport
In the 9th round of the FIDE Grand Swiss tournament, Armenian GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan defeated with black pieces one of the strongest chess players in the world, Richard Rapport, the Armenian Chess Federation reported on Saturday.
Manuel Petrosyan defeated American GM Jeffery Xiong.
The games of Gabriel Sargissian and Haik Martirosyan ended in a draw.
After 9 rounds, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan and Manuel Petrosyan have 5.5 points and are in the 17th and 20th places, respectively. Shant Sargsyan and Gabriel Sargissian have 4.5 points, Hrant Melkumyan and Haik Martirosyan have 4 points.
In the women's tournament, Mariam Mkrtchyan defeated GM Thanh Trang Hoang and now has 4 points. Elina Danielian has 3 points.
