Pashinyan 'clearing the way' for new Azeri demands, MP says
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of paving the way for new demands put forward by Azerbaijan by his public statements.
In a social media post on Wednesday, he addressed Baku's renewed demands for Armenia to hand over “eight Azerbaijani villages”.
“Armenia is refusing to hand over eight Azerbaijani villages, which are still under occupation,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
"Azerbaijan has announced the new concessions expected from Armenia concerning the well-known 8 villages and started to work intensively on it,” said Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction.
“Moreover, Baku is pushing the narrative that the Armenian authorities themselves publicly acknowledged the Azerbaijani sovereignty over these territories.
“This is similar to the situation when the Pashinyan government first recognized Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, noted that Artsakh has a future within Azerbaijan, and then Azerbaijan, using these statements in dialogue with various centers, launched an attack on Artsakh. Isn't this a surrender? Pashinyan is soothing the way for Azerbaijan to satisfy its appetite,” the deputy stated.
