MPs discuss violations of democratic values in Armenia with PACE co-rapporteurs
MP Hayk Mamijanyan, head of the opposition Pativ Unem faction in the Armenian parliament, and nonpartisan MP Taguhi Tovmasyan on Wednesday met the co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Monitoring Committee on Armenia, Kimmo Kiljunen and Boriana Åberg.
“We drew the co-rapporteurs’ attention to the genocidal actions committed by the Azerbaijani authorities against our compatriots, the necessity to ensure the status, asylum, job for the forcibly displaced Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the problems of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku until now, the missing people,” Tovmasyan said in a social media post.
“At the meeting, we also touched upon the violations of democratic values in the Republic of Armenia, the criminal cases as a tool to suppress the opposition, in particular, the detention as the cases of punishment, the pressures carried out against political prisoners and inner-political other developments,” she added.
