Artsakh Monument Watch reacts to Azerbaijani 'excavations' in Tigranakert
The Artsakh Monument Watch has reacted to the Azerbaijani “excavations" in the city of Tigranakert in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
in a report on Thursday, the watchdog said Natiq Alishov, a researcher at Azerbaijan's Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, posted photos from the Royal Springs of Tigranakert on Facebook on September 20.
The photos show that earthworks are underway in the area adjacent to the mosque built by Panah Khan to the south.
As a result of the works, sections of a wall built of medium-sized rough stones have been uncovered.
The Azerbaijani archaeologist states that they have been working in the area since August 23.
"Since 2021, Azerbaijan has repeatedly announced that archaeological excavations are planned in the territories "liberated from Armenian occupation". This is the first known fact of Azerbaijani "excavations" in Tigranakert," the Monument Watch said.
