Writers' Union of Armenia pledges continued support for Artsakh writers
Over 40 writers of the Artsakh Writers' Union, who are also members of the Writers' Union of Armenia, have been displaced from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and resettled in Armenia following Azerbaijan’s violent seizure of Artsakh in mid-September.
In an interview to Panorama.am on Monday, the chairman of the Writers' Union of Armenia, Eduard Militonyan, pledged his union’s continued support for Artsakh writers, including for the publication of their works.
"The round hall of our union will be provided to Artsakh writers to organize meetings and discuss new projects. We are creating this opportunity for them," Militonyan noted.
According to him, they offered the writers to spend their vacations in the Writers Creativity House.
Recently, at the initiative of Eduard Militonyan, the book "When Artsakh Was Under Siege" has been published. It includes the works of Artsakh writers created during the 10-month Azerbaijani blockade. Initially, the book was supposed to be published under the title "Sieged Artsakh".
"Since writers from Artsakh are already in Armenia, we changed the title of the book," Militonyan explained.
He noted that his goal was to publish works penned by Artsakh writers during the blockade. The collection is opened by the works of Vardan Hakobyan, who was the chairman of the Artsakh Writers' Union during the blockade, but, unfortunately, passed away.
