Activist slams ex-MP's arrest for social media post
Political activist Edgar Ghazaryan has denounced the arrest of former MP Aragats Akhoyan for a social media post five months ago which called for punishment for “all traitors” after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s ouster.
Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Ghazaryan highlighted no cases of violence were reported following the post on Facebook made in June.
"What is the investigator even thinking about? Is he saying that someone may go to Aragats Akhoyan's page, scroll down to the posts made five months ago and see a call for violence?” he asked. “The investigator and prosecutor who made this decision should be urgently sent for compulsory psychiatric treatment.”
He charged that Akhoyan’s prosecution and arrest had been ordered by the Armenian authorities.
Also, the activist recalled that no one was arrested following violence against him in 2022.
