Georgian FM comments on shipments of military equipment to Armenia
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili has defended the arms shipments from France to Armenia through Georgian territory, which has caused discontent in Azerbaijan.
France delivered Bastion armored personnel carriers (APCs) and related equipment to Armenia via Georgia on November 13.
In an interview to Channel One of Georgia on Wednesday, Darchiashvili that any country has the right to acquire means of defense allowed by international treaties. He highlighted Georgia's position to provide equal transit opportunities to both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"Any country has the right to acquire weapons authorized by international conventions for its needs," the minister said. “Georgia's position is to offer its transit functions to both countries on equal terms."
