Opposition MP deplores Armenia's decision to skip CSTO summit
Opposition MP Seyran Ohanyan has deplored Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s decision to skip the upcoming summit of the Moscow-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Pashinyan announced his decision not to attend the CSTO Collective Security Council meeting in Minsk on 23 November in a phone call with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, the MP insisted on Armenia’s participation in all CSTO events to raise its concerns.
Ohanyan, who leads the largest opposition Hayastan faction in the Armenian parliament, highlighted that Armenia was at the origins of the security bloc.
“Obviously, there are problems in relations between Armenia and CSTO. However, amid the complicated military and political situation in Armenia and Artsakh, the refusal to attend CSTO meetings puts Armenia’s security at further risk,” he stated.
"In many cases, Armenia's authorities played a part in the deterioration of relations," Ohanyan added.
