No police officers charged over violence against fallen soldiers' parents
No police officers have been charged as part of a criminal investigation into violence against parents of fallen Armenian soldiers at Yerevan’s Yerablur Military Pantheon in September 2022. The probe lasted one year and two months.
Lawyer Vahan Hovhannisyan said on Wednesday none of the policemen were indicted due to the “lack of crime elements”.
Shortly after taking over as Yerevan mayor in October, Tigran Avinyan decided to award a gold medal to Police Lieutenant Colonel Haykaz Jomardyan, the commander of the special police forces regiment in Yerevan who ordered the detentions of the parents protesting at Yerablur on Armenia’s 31st independence anniversary on 21 September 2022.
