Aliyev gets concessions from Pashinyan on all platforms, MP says
Azerbaijan is rejecting Western-mediated talks with Armenia because it has already used all the meetings hosted by the U.S and the EU to extort concessions from Armenia, claims opposition MP Artur Khachatryan.
Speaking at a press briefing in the parliament on Friday, the MP recalled that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan first “unlawfully” recognized Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Artsakh during Western-mediated talks.
Khachatryan stressed that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s rejection of normalization talks with Armenia “poses a risk of new war”.
His comments came after Baku turned down a proposal for a meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on November 20.
The MP, who represents the opposition Hayastan faction, pointed to Azerbaijan’s purchase of weapons worth $1.2 billion in response to Pashinyan's “era of peace” policy.
“Saying “halva-halva” won't make your mouth sweet. No paper has ever guaranteed a country's security,” he said.
"Aliyev gets concessions from Pashinyan on all platforms. I cannot say what else the two "competent and constructive" partners have agreed on," the MP added.
