EU, U.S. offer condolences after deadly Yerevan university fire
The EU Delegation and the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan extended condolences over the deadly explosion and fire that rocked a Yerevan State University (YSU) building on Friday morning,
The explosion occurred in the basement of the YSU Chemistry Faculty building. One person died and three others were hospitalized with burns and other injuries, health officials said.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim of the tragic incident at Yerevan State University. Wishing a swift and full recovery to those injured," the EU office said in a statement.
"On behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan, I wish to express our deepest condolences for the tragic loss of life that occurred as a result of the explosion at Yerevan State University today and hope for swift recovery to those injured," U.S. Ambassador Kristina Kvien said.
The head of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, Gor Vardanyan, also offered his condolences over the incident. "I wish to express my condolences over the incident at YSU, which killed one person. I wish a swift recovery to those injured and express solidarity with our colleagues at the mother university,” he said.
