Azerbaijan arrests Artsakh resident
Azerbaijani authorities have arrested Rashid Beglaryan, an Artsakh Armenian who is accused of involvement in the so-called “Khojaly massacre”.
The 61-year-old man has been charged with “torture of prisoners of war, as well as other grave crimes against humanity and war crimes” under five articles of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.
Beglaryan was kidnapped by Azerbaijan’s border guard service on his way to Armenia near the village of Aghavno on August 1. Baku accused the man of “illegally entering Azerbaijani territory.”
He had been displaced from the town of Shushi in the wake of the 44-day war in 2020 and resettled in Hin Shen village.
Earlier in November, a court in Baku sentenced 68-year-old Artsakh man Vagif Khachatryan to 15 years in prison on charges of “genocide” and “forced deportation of civilians” strongly denied by him.
