Political analyst criticizes Armenian leadership's rejection of CSTO assistance
Political analyst Suren Surenyants, the leader of the Democratic Alternative Party, has criticized the Armenian leadership’s decision to reject assistance from the Moscow-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Armenia requested the security bloc to remove the country assistance document from the agenda of its upcoming summit, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said at a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on Monday.
“It’s sheer adventurism,” Surenyants wrote on Facebook. “Through [Prime Minister] Nikol Pashinyan’s efforts, the burden of ensuring Armenia's security is being removed from Russia and the CSTO, with all ensuing consequences.”
He cited Pashinyan's statements that his government is not changing Armenia's "foreign policy vector" but seeks to diversify security ties.
