Direct Armenia-Azerbaijan talks 'dangerous', says opposition MP
Opposition MP Armen Rustamyan rejects direct Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations as “dangerous”, saying that Baku seeks to step up pressure on Yerevan to get new concessions.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on Tuesday called for direct negotiations with Armenia in a mutually acceptable venue, including at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
“Azerbaijan's demands are incompatible with Armenia’s interests,” Rustamyan, who represents the largest opposition Hayastan faction, told reporters on Wednesday.
“Under these conditions, bilateral negotiations would be dangerous,” he stressed.
Rustamyan believes Azerbaijan will attempt to get new concessions from Armenia through threats of new war.
The MP claims Baku has already got what it wanted from Western-mediated talks and now seeks to push its demands at direct or Russia-hosted negotiations with Yerevan.
