Opposition MP: Armenia 'sliding into the abyss'
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has warned of Armenia’s “slide into the abyss” and insisted on a change of power to stop it.
“The happenings over the past five years haven’t been fully understood by the public, otherwise the campaign to oust the current leadership would have gained wider popular support, and indifference and disappointment would not have been so prevailing,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“The problem is not that those seeking national consolidation did not make mistakes or failures at different stages, but that what happened to us, from the surrender of Artsakh to the Azerbaijani occupation of different parts of Armenia, is still not fully perceived," said Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction.
“This is a matter of survival for Armenians in the region. While in the 1990s a solid foundation was laid for our survival and role in the region, since 2018 it has been one of retreat, betrayal and decline.
“The country is sliding into the abyss, while even slowing it down seems to be a challenging task at the moment. As long as those responsible for this decline stay in power, the process cannot be stopped,” he stated.
