Armenia reports 25 Lyme disease cases in nine months
Armenia confirmed 25 cases of Lyme disease in January-September this year, 9 cases more than in the same period last year, according to the latest data from the Statistical Committee seen by Panorama.am.
All those diagnosed with the disease were children, including a child aged 0-2 years.
Incidentally, only two Lyme disease cases were reported in the country in January-September 2021.
Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and rarely, Borrelia mayonii. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans.
