Armenia eyes more gas imports from Iran
Armenia eyes an increase in gas imports from Iran in the coming years, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan said on Tuesday.
Currently, Armenia imports 365 million cubic meters of natural gas from Iran annually. Under the agreement, Armenia gets one cubic meter of gas from Iran in exchange for three kilowatt hours of electricity produced by thermal plants in Armenia.
Earlier in August, Yerevan and Tehran extended the gas for electricity deal until 2030.
Sanosyan told reporters that the agreement envisages greater gas and electricity swaps between Armenia and Iran.
“I think it will be the case in the coming years, the volumes will change gradually. The current gas pipeline is not used to its fullest capacity," he said.
