EU's Klaar reacts to killing of Armenian soldier on Azeri border
Toivo Klaar, the EU's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, expressed concern over the shootings and the death of an Armenian soldier on the border with Azerbaijan on Monday.
The Azerbaijani armed forces discharged fire against the Armenian combat position in Bardzruni, Vayots Dzor Province, Armenia's Defense Ministry said in a statement, adding that serviceman Gerasim Arakelyan sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
"Worrying report of shootings and death on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border," Klaar wrote on X.
"EU is constantly engaged with Baku and Yerevan. It is essential that calm prevails on the ground and decisive progress is achieved at the negotiating table," he added.
