MP: Pashinyan avoids Russia-hosted talks with Azerbaijan
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan avoids Russia-hosted negotiations with Azerbaijan after recognizing Baku’s sovereignty over Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) at the meetings mediated by the West, opposition MP Artur Khachatryan claims.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, he accused Pashinyan of mishandling the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process after coming to power in 2018 and repeatedly making concessions to Azerbaijan.
Khachatryan, who represents the opposition Hayastan faction, believes peace will not be established between Armenia and Azerbaijan after the two countries sign a peace deal.
“The peace treaty will not bring peace [to the region]. I strongly believe the document imposed by Azerbaijan will include vague wording,” the deputy said, adding Azerbaijan could misinterpret it to start a new war against Armenia.
“Azerbaijan is laying out new demands after any concession by Armenia, but I hope that no document will be signed by the end of the year,” he added.
