Swap of Armenian, Azeri prisoners expected on Wednesday
Armenia and Azerbaijan are expected to exchange prisoners on Wednesday 13 December, the news agency Turan reported, citing its sources.
The prisoner swap will reportedly be carried out at the Ijevan-Kazakh section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on 7 December to exchange prisoners of war and work toward signing a peace treaty.
A joint statement released by the office of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the administration of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said the two countries "share the view that there is a historic chance to achieve a long-awaited peace."
“The two countries reconfirm their intention to normalize relations and to reach the peace treaty on the basis of respect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement added.
Azerbaijan said it would release 32 Armenian prisoners of war in exchange for the release of two Azerbaijani soldiers detained in Armenia.
