Armenia removed from Magnitsky list supporters
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been removed from the list of countries supporting the EU's Magnitsky Act.
In a statement on Monday, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said 11 non-EU member states, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, had agreed to the European Council's decision to extend the European Magnitsky Act for another year. The legislation empowers the EU to impose sanctions on officials, individuals and entities found responsible for serious human rights violations or abuses.
The statement was revised later on Monday to exclude Armenia from the list.
"The candidate countries North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, Republic of Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina2, as well as the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, align themselves with this Council Decision," reads the edited statement.
