MP insists on withdrawal of Azeri troops from Armenian territory
Pro-government MP Armen Khachatryan insisted on the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from Armenian territory to pave the way for a peace deal between the two countries.
“There can be no peace agreement so long as the Azerbaijani armed forces remain inside Armenian territory,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
“All issues should be resolved only after they pull out of the occupied lands,” said Khachatryan, who represents Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party.
He reiterated Armenia’s call for a mutual withdrawal of the two countries’ troops from their shared border.
“However, it doesn’t imply that we, too, should withdraw from the parts of Armenian territory occupied by them,” Khachatryan added.
The lawmaker claims Baku seeks to sign a peace treaty with Yerevan which would allow the country to violate all its terms in the future as was the case with the 9 November 2020 declaration.
“Armenia won’t let it happen,” he added.
